A Distribution Shaped For Science

Scubuntu is:

• An Ubuntu-based Linux distribution, for use by scientists in scientific computing on Linux
• A derivative of Ubuntu with all work released as OSS
• An open source project methodology for our active and contributing community

The distribution will be a derivative of Ubuntu with all work released as OSS. It will differ from the standard Ubuntu desktop in that it will provide specialised applications to assist scientists in their research endeavours.

The focus is therefore on providing native support for scientific computing on commodity desktop and laptop computers while retaining generic office productivity, all within a common environment.
