SANReN - South African Research Network

In accordance with its mandate, as stated in the National R&D Strategy (2002), to create a new ICT Technology Platform for Research (para 8.1.1) the Department of Science and Technology (DST) issued a SANReN Request for Information (RfI) on 11 July 2005. This RfI was followed by a process to determine specific issues relating to the implementation of SANReN.

The DST tasked the Meraka Institute to manage the process of SANReN implementation. To this end, the DST appointed the Meraka Institute to act as its agent in all operational and administrative matters concerning SANReN.

DST issued two Requests for Proposals on 11 April 2006 based on the analyses of the RfI responses and further analyses of the research networking requirements and trends in South Africa and internationally.

Two requests for proposals in relation to the development of the South African National Research Network (SANReN) have been issued. An information session has been scheduled for Thursday, 13 April 2006 (Hummingbird Boardroom, Building 43, CSIR, Meiring Naude Road, Lynnwood Manor) between 8:30 and 10:30.
