Meraka Institute announces new appointments to management team


27 January 2007

The start of 2007 heralded in a number of changes to the management team of the Meraka Institute (a national research centre managed by the CSIR). These appointments were announced by Phil Hendricks, Executive Director: National Research Centres at a staff session held on 15 January 2007.

Ms Kagiso Chikane has been appointed as the centre manager for the institute. She takes over from Llew Jones, who was interim director since 2005.

Llew will become Director of the Centre for High Performance Computing a Department of Science and Technology-funded initiative managed by the Meraka Institute in partnership with the University of Cape Town.

Sherrin Isaac has taken on the responsibility for Research Development and Research Funding. Staff members were also introduced to Makgomo Umlaw, HR Manager responsible for the national research centre.
